The planning committee of the Imota Ayayo Day Celebration, has unveiled the ankara fabric for the 39th edition of the annually day celebration.
The committee also used the unveiling ceremony, which was done by the Ranodu of Imota, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajibade Bakare Agoro, at his palace on Saturday, September 6, 2024, to appeal to sons and daughters of the kingdom, to be part of the celebration.
The annual event has, over the years, been used in mobilising the community for projects and developments; promoting peace and unity, and in showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Ayayo people.
This year’s Imota Ayayo Day Celebration holds in November, 2024.
Dr. Abiodun Okedeyi, an associate professor with the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) who is chairing the planning committee, speaking at the ceremony, said that the committee is determined to complete the ICT centre which was the project embarked upon for last year’s celebration.
“We are gathered here to unveil the Ankara for the Imota Ayayo Day 2024 grand finale which is coming up on Saturday, November 9th, at Imota stadium.
“The theme generally is about how we generally move the town forward and bring everybody together. We all have to be on the same page as people in terms of development and see how we can make our town prosperous.
“The ICT centre that we embarked upon last year is now at roofing stage and we are planning to complete it from this year’s proceeds and make sure JAMB CBT center is completed by next year, by God’s grace.
“The target basically is our youths within the community. The CBT centre will serve as a training centre for them in ICT, as well as examinations. Our intention with the centre is to expose the youths to ICT, and make them compliant and also use it to engage them in other intelligent training.
“When the center is ready, it means that our youths will be exposed to necessary trainings and writing of UTME and other examinations won’t be new to them”, Dr. Okedeyi said.
Okedeyi appealed to sons and daughters of Imota, both home and abroad, to be part of this year’s celebration and the general development of the town.
“This town has great opportunities and we want every to be involved in its development. We are calling on our people at home and abroad to come together and let’s build and make this town great.
“There are lot of potentials and opportunities here; we have the largest rice mill in Africa, we have a university and other strategic development. Let us come and support ourselves to greatness”, he charged.
The Ranodu of Imota, Oba Agoro in his royal remarks, said that the annual celebration is being used in bringing together sons and daughters of Imota, both home and abroad, as well as the residents, for developmental purposes.
Oba Agoro, therefore, appealed to the indigenes and residents to give maximum support to the planning committee in making this year’s celebration a huge success.
“We celebrate the Imota Ayayo Day every year, and we are getting set for the 39th edition this year. We use the Ayayo Day celebration to bring our people and friends together to contribute to the development of the town.
“For this year, we are expecting a better outing than the last year’s edition.
“Our sons and daughters, both home and abroad, the residents should contribute to this year’s edition more than what they have been doing before. The gathering has brought development to Imota. When I was installed as an Oba 31 and half years ago, Imota was made up of four quarters which have metamorphosed into 23 communities as at today. This is the the of development that we want and which we must sustained. I am expecting more and I need more of their cooperation.
“I want more patronages and more presence of the local, state and the federal governments, so that we can move Imota forward to the next level of social, economic and political developments”, Oba Agoro said.
